Freshman for No. 24 San Diego State dominates Fresno State

Freshman Magoon Gwath scored a career-high 25 points and 10 rebounds and blocked two shots as No. 24 San Diego State overcame a slow start to secure an 84-62 victory over host Fresno State in their Mountain West Conference opener.

BJ Davis scored 13 points, Wayne McKinney III added 12 and Miles Byrd grabbed 10 rebounds for the Aztecs (5-2), who moved into the rankings for the first time this week after beating No. 1 Houston in overtime on Saturday. 6 had won.

San Diego State shot just 36.7 percent in the first half while Fresno State shot 21.2 percent.

The Aztecs regained their 10-point lead at 39-29 with 14:58 left on a 3-pointer from Davis and were ahead by double digits the rest of the way. They finished the game with a 7-0 run and took a 61-42 lead with 8:07 left.

San Diego State showed a significant improvement in the second half, shooting 57.9 percent from the floor and hitting 48.5 percent for the game. The 7-foot Gwath was 10 of 13 from the floor and 3 of 4 from 3-point range.
