Gal Gadot reveals she had a blood clot in her brain while pregnant

After giving birth to her fourth child in March, Gal Gadot announced Sunday that she was “diagnosed with a massive blood clot in my brain” in the eighth month of her pregnancy.

The “Wonder Woman” star shared a photo of herself breastfeeding her then-newborn baby and wrote a lengthy caption that began, “This year has been one full of great challenges and intense reflection, and I have wrestled with the question of how or even if.” to tell a personal story.

“In the end, I decided to let my heart guide me,” Gadot continued. “Maybe this is my way of processing it all, of pulling back the curtain on the fragile reality behind the curated moments we share on social media. Most importantly, I hope that by sharing I can raise awareness and support others who may be facing something similar.”

The Snow White actress then revealed that she was diagnosed with a blood clot in her brain in February, the eighth month of her pregnancy. Gadot detailed her symptoms, which included persistent “excruciating headaches” that left me bedridden until I finally underwent an MRI that revealed the frightening truth.

“In a moment my family and I realized how fragile life can be,” she wrote. “It was a stark reminder of how quickly everything can change, and in the midst of a difficult year, I just wanted to persevere and live.”

The 39-year-old, who is married to film producer Jaron Varsano, wrote that they rushed to the hospital and she underwent emergency surgery within a few hours. “My daughter Ori was born in this moment of uncertainty and fear,” she shared. “Her name, which means ‘my light,’ was not chosen by chance.”

“Before the surgery, I told Jaron that she would be the light waiting for me at the end of this tunnel when our daughter arrived,” Gadot added. “Thanks to an exceptional team of doctors at @cedarssinai and weeks of dedicated care, I made it and began the road to recovery. Today I am completely healed and filled with gratitude for the life that has been given back to me.”

Gadot shared that she had given birth to Ori in an Instagram post on March 6, writing at the time that while the pregnancy was “not easy,” she “got through it.”

Gadot has three other daughters with Varsano, including Alma, born in 2011, Maya, born in 2017, and Daniella, born in 2021.

Second, awareness is important. I had no idea that 3 out of 100,000 pregnant women in the 30+ age group are diagnosed with CVT (blood clot in the brain).

“It is so important to catch it early because it is treatable. Although rare, it is a possibility and knowing it exists is the first step to addressing it. Sharing this is not meant to scare anyone, but to empower. If even one person feels compelled to do something about their health because of this story, it will have been worth sharing.”

In a follow-up comment to her post, Gadot added: “The birth of a child is a miracle, a testament to the strength and resilience of our bodies and minds. But it also asks so much of us and reminds us to care for ourselves as passionately as we care for others.
