Geralt appears in The Witcher 4 and that is actually Doug Cockle’s voice in the trailer, CD Projekt confirms

If you saw The Witcher 4’s debut trailer during the 2024 Game Awards, you’ll have heard a line of dialogue that sounded very much like it came from previous protagonist Geralt: “Time for a new saga.” See you on the way.”

While Ciri is confirmed as the main character for The Witcher 4, fans were wondering if Geralt would appear in the game set after the events of The Witcher 3.

IGN can confirm that Geralt does indeed appear in The Witcher 4, and that it is indeed the voice of veteran Geralt voice actor Doug Cockle. The confirmation comes from CD Projekt themselves, who told IGN: “Geralt will appear in the game, but we don’t want to reveal exactly his role. You’ll have to wait to find out more for now.”

So how can Geralt appear in The Witcher 4 after The Witcher 3 left the character semi-retired in his vineyard in Toussaint? In an interview with IGN ahead of The Witcher 4’s release, CD Projekt franchise and lore designers Cian Maher and Marcin Batylda explained how the already established timeline of events makes sense.

“I mean, Geralt will probably be around for a long time since there’s an epilogue in Season of Storms, the prequel novel that actually takes place before Geralt attends the banquet we mentioned before,” Maher explained .

“It’s set in a place called Magpie Forest in the year 1373, 101 years after The Witcher 3. And in this epilogue, there’s a certain white-haired witcher who hunts a monster who, while unnamed, has a certain way behaves, and he obviously has that too.” white hair. What I mean by this is that we can expect Geralt to be around for a long time. We’ll see in what capacity he does that, but I don’t think he’s going anywhere.”

CD Projekt doesn’t hold any cards here, but at least it’s now confirmed that Geralt will appear in The Witcher 4. This in itself is a funny follow-up to recent comments from Doug Cockle, who said he had been “beaten”. ” from CD Projekt for saying Geralt was in The Witcher 4, but not as a main character, before the developer had a chance to make its official announcements.

“I actually don’t know if that’s true now because they came back and said, ‘We haven’t put anything out, don’t say anything,'” Cockle said, adding, “The truth is, I can.” I answer that Don’t ask because I signed a non-disclosure agreement. Even if I knew, I would have to lie to you.”

Indeed!

IGN has tons of exclusive features on The Witcher 4, including “Inside The Witcher 4: CD Projekt Red’s plans for its next big RPG,” “The Witcher 4: 12 key trailer details from CD Projekt Red revealed,” and “Why CD Projekt wanted to continue with Ciri”. With Geralt as the protagonist.
