Giants and Raiders among NFL teams scouting Cam Ward at Pop-Tarts Bowl 2024 | News, results, highlights, statistics and rumors

Several teams vying for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft were at the Pop-Tarts Bowl on Saturday to see Miami quarterback Cam Ward.

According to reports, New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen and Las Vegas Raiders assistant general manager Champ Kelly were present at the game Sports Illustrated Albert Breer. Tim McDonnell, the Giants’ director of player personnel, was also in attendance.

Ward played only in the first half against Iowa State, going 12 of 19 for 190 yards and three touchdowns without turning the ball over. He rushed for eight yards on two attempts and set a new Division I record for career passing touchdowns.

Ward finished an impressive senior season with the Hurricanes, completing 67.4 percent of his passes for 4,123 yards and 37 touchdowns entering Saturday. He was picked just seven times and finished fourth in the 2024 Heisman Trophy voting.

B/R NFL scout Dame Parson highlighted Ward’s overall arm talent in his scouting report on the signal-caller.

“In summary, Cam Ward is one of the most talented pitchers in the NFL draft class,” Parson wrote. “The combination of arm talent, agility/athleticism and accuracy is increasing among NFL scouts.”

As things stand, the Giants, with their league-worst record of 2-13, are expected to get the No. 1 overall pick. The New England Patriots have the second-worst record at 3-13, while Las Vegas is one of four teams with identical 3-12 records.

The owner of the top pick in the 2025 draft is not yet official, but Ward is expected to be considered for the first pick regardless of which team is on the roster.
