Governor Reynolds Makes ‘Special Announcement’

DES MOINES, Iowa (Gray Media Iowa Capitol Bureau) – Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds announced LeClaire State Senator Chris Cournoyer as her new lieutenant governor during a press conference at the State Capitol on Monday morning.

Cournoyer was officially sworn in shortly after Reynolds’ announcement.

She has served in the Iowa Senate since 2019, representing the 35th Senate District. This includes parts of Clinton, Jackson and Scott counties.

While introducing Cournoyer, Governor Reynolds said Iowans can trust Cournoyer if she ever needs to step in as governor.

“First and foremost, she has the character, judgment and skills necessary to serve as governor should I be unable to do so – qualities that also make her ideally suited to our day-to-day work “I can’t wait to leverage Chris’ extensive experience on key legislative committees, including Ways and Means, and his expertise in technology, innovation and artificial intelligence on a variety of issues important to Iowans,” Reynolds said. “

Cournoyer replaces former Lieutenant Governor Adam Gregg, who had served alongside Reynolds since 2017. He resigned in September to take a position leading the Iowa Bankers Association.
