Gracie Abrams hints at LeBron James’ inspiration for “That’s So True.”

Gracie Abrams found an unexpected source of inspiration in a track from the deluxe version of her album The Secret of Us — a viral meme coined by LeBron James.

On “That’s So True,” released in October, Abrams sang, “Smiling through it all, yeah, that’s my life.”

The text references a nostalgic post from the Los Angeles Lakers star on his Instagram Story from 2018 with the caption: “Smiling through it all! “Can’t believe this is my life,” as James grinned while in the pool. He posted the selfie after Fox News host Laura Ingraham told him to “shut up and dribble.”

Since then, James’ post has become a popular social media meme. And now it seems to have stuck in Abrams’ mind as she recorded “That’s So True,” which debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The pop star hinted at the inspiration months before the official release.

According to a video published by Entertainment Weekly in June, Abrams said that she and her best friend and song co-writer Audrey Hobert sent the meme to each other when they were sad. Hobert even gave Abrams a blanket with the celebrity photo.

Abrams also joked in the June video about crediting James as a co-writer on the track.

According to SB Nation’s Harrison Faigen, she all but confirmed those links on Tuesday, posting a lighter with James’ selfie on her Instagram Story.

“That’s So True” became Abrams’ first top 10 track on the Billboard Hot 100 in November and stayed on the chart for six weeks. Her track “us.” with Taylor Swift was nominated for a Grammy Award in the “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” category.
