A senior executive at an artificial intelligence startup Perplexity AI, Dmitri Shevelenkothanked the company’s Indian-born CEO, Aravind Srinivasfor creating more than 100 jobs in the United States. This comes amid a debate in the US environment Indian immigrationespecially after the recent election of Donald Trump as the country’s president for a second term.
The debate was further fueled by the president-elect’s appointment of Indian-origin Sriram Krishnan as White House senior policy adviser on AI. That appointment has drawn criticism from some Americans who fear Krishnan will use his position to promote immigration.
Shevelenko’s statement supports Trump’s decision and emphasizes the positive economic contribution of Indian immigrants in the technology sector.

In his X post, Shevelenko wrote: “I am an American who is employed because an Indian immigrant on a visa started a business in the US. Thanks to @AravSrinivas for creating over 100 American jobs.”

How users reacted to the post

Since Shevelenko’s post was shared, it has received over 4.6 million views and over 11,000 likes. The X contribution was met with both praise and criticism.
“Did he ever mention why he didn’t open his company in India?” one user asked.

Meanwhile, other users defended the right of talented people to succeed worldwide, regardless of their place of birth.
“Same. Let builders build in America. It doesn’t matter where you were born, but where you want to build. We must continue to attract the best talent to continue growing our economy.” another user wrote in the comments section of the post.

A third user also supported Shevelenko’s post, writing: “It is safe to assume that America has lost hundreds, if not thousands, of founders like Aravind over the last 25 years because of the distorted policies in place.”

“Anyone who feels threatened by the immigration of skilled workers is hardly qualified enough to get a simple job,” A fourth user spoke up.

On the other hand, a fifth user personally attacked Shevelenko, saying: “You are Ukrainian. Zelensky needs your presence at home. Nothing against you or him personally, but do you realize that your argument is worthless?”
