One heck of a way to put a bow on the greatest season in Bowling Green Falcon football history. Some people might say it was the best season by a TE in college football history. Not Mackey Award voters. But real ball connoisseurs (i.e. people on Twitter who have the same opinion as me) will tell you he did. But I gave up this fight. Harold Fannin was phenomenal all season long and topped it all off in perfect Bowling Green Falcon football fashion. It takes a special type of player to walk into Hancock Whitney Stadium and post 213 yards and receiving yards in the 68 Ventures Bowl against the 7-5 Arkansas State Red Wolves.

And it takes a special kind of team to outrebound the opponent by more than 100 yards, win the turnover battle and still lose the game. I’m still trying to figure out how Bowling Green’s QB could have racked up 390 yards of offense last night while also being the worst quarterback I’ve ever seen. But that’s beside the point. If anything, it makes Harold Fannin Jr.’s season all the more impressive. The man had over 1,500 receiving yards all season dealing with shit like that.

It is believed that Harold Fannin Jr. will now enter the NFL Draft, although he has not yet declared this. Part of me wants him to move to a national championship contender and make some money before he goes to the NFL. I’m not sure how much he could realistically make in a season in NIL, but he would have a choice of which school he wanted to attend. I’d like to see him return to Bowling Green, but even as a Bowling Green fan, I can’t wish that on him. He deserves better.

For me, Harold Fannin Jr. will go down in history as the greatest Bowling Green Falcon football player of all time. I have never had the pleasure of watching such a talented player play for my alma mater. I will most likely never do that again. Harold Fannin Jr. went from a zero-star linebacker recruit out of high school to a tight end who stormed the record books. You don’t see that too often.

And kudos to Bowling Green, which despite playing the dumbest, sloppiest football possible last night, pulled off a fake punt for the ages. A fake punt where the third quarterback’s number was changed and he was disguised.

It was an extremely disappointing season for Bowling Green in many ways, especially after both Penn State and Texas A&M had their turns early in the season. But Harold Fannin Jr. made it worth watching. Thank you, Harold Fannin Jr., for bringing a little relevance to my school this year. I’ll never forget it.
