Hartford’s Aetna releases pink slips the week before Christmas

HARTFORD, CT – For the third time in as many months, a Hartford-based insurer is announcing another wave of layoffs for employees at its Hartford plant, just days before Christmas.

CVS Health, the corporate operator of Hartford-based Aetna, sent a notice Friday, Dec. 20, to the Department of Labor and Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam about additional layoffs at the 151 Farmington Ave. location. from Aetna.

According to the announcement, 164 employees will be laid off between February 15 and 28, 2025.

Although CVS Health was assigned to that Hartford office, CVS Health said none of the employees were working on-site but were reporting to the facility.

CVS said they were home-based workers, with most living out of state.

“All employees terminated as a result of this action have been informed of their specific separation dates and that their separation from employment will be permanent,” CVS wrote in the announcement.

The eliminated positions are related to the “unexpected loss of a contract in Kansas,” according to CVS.

Of the 164 workers slated for unemployment, only three live in Connecticut; the rest live in several states scattered across the country, mostly Kansas, according to CVS.

This latest announcement comes after CVS announced the layoffs of 416 employees reported to Hartford in October and an additional 42 employees last month.
