Have the Raiders identified a new head coach?

Have the Raiders identified a new head coach?

The Las Vegas Raiders head coaching job is a strange one right now.

Some believe Antonio Pierce absolutely deserves another chance in 2025. Others believe he is anything but dead and should be.

The fact is, none of us know exactly what that is Raiders thinkand we won’t know the details until later The season is over.

That won’t stop the rumor mill from churning, however, and ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler has reported that Las Vegas may be focusing on their next head coach.

Mike Vrabel.

Fowler called Vrabel a “prime candidate” for the head coaching job next year, which wouldn’t be a big surprise given the momentum Vrabel’s name rose to prominence in NFL circles in the second half of the season.

He then mentions the Raiders as a potential landing spot for the former Tennessee Titans coach.

Vrabel currently serves as a defensive assistant for the Cleveland Browns, but it’s hard to imagine him staying in that role for long.

After all, the former linebacker posted a very respectable 54-45 record in six seasons with the Titans from 2018 to 2023.

During this time, Vrabel led Tennessee to two AFC South Division titles and even the AFC Championship Game once.

He did go 13-21 in his final two seasons in Music City, but that may have had more to do with a lack of roster talent than anything else (Have you seen the Titans this year?).

Of course, all of this will be moot if the Raiders decide to bring Pierce back, which is the case still a possibility.

Pierce’s fall from grace came quickly, as he was a household name when he replaced Josh McDaniels in the middle of 2023 and ended up winning 5-4 against Las Vegas. That included a win over the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on Christmas.

However, the Raiders are just 2-11 this season and are on a miserable nine-game losing streak.

Maybe Las Vegas will decide to go a different route, and if so, Vrabel could be the franchise’s first choice.
