'He was ready for it': Sportscaster Ian Eagle drops cheeky reference to Taylor Swift after Travis Kelce's historic touchdown catch

Pop icon Taylor Swift was not present to witness her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s historic touchdown catch in the Kansas City Chiefs’ win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. With just over 13 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Kelce scored the 77th touchdown of his Hall of Fame career, surpassing the Chiefs’ touchdown record for any player under franchise legend Tony Gonzalez. Ian Eagle on play-by-play said during a live stream about the momentous occasion for Kelce, with Taylor Swift humorously joining in.

Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce has now taken the top spot as the player with the most touchdown receptions in Chiefs franchise history with 77. Travis Kelce scored a record-tying 12-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter of the Chiefs’ Christmas Day game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, extending their lead to 29-10 as the AFC’s No. 1 team was just half a quarter away.
After Kelce’s historic moment, as the Netflix cameras panned on the 35-year-old veteran, play-by-play announcer Ian Eagle dropped a cheeky reference to Taylor Swift. “I would say he was ready for it,” Eagle said, referencing Swift’s “Ready For It?” track from her Reputation album.

Kelce caught a season-high 97 passes on eight receptions on 11 targets and became the first player in NFL history to catch seven straight seasons with at least 90 receptions. Swift quietly celebrated Kelce’s outstanding performance on social media as she did not attend the Chiefs’ home games throughout the 2024-25 season, as she only attended the Chiefs’ home games this season.
Swift liked three posts from social media teams Chiefs, NFL and New Heights after breaking Gonzalez’s record. Kelce thanked Tony for being a mentor and always being available to answer questions after he broke Gonzalez’s record. “I feel like I’m still trying to follow in that guy’s footsteps. He is such an incredible competitor and I love him so much. It’s an honor to be in conversation with him.”
During a postgame press conference, Mahomes spoke to reporters and offered additional praise for Kelce. “I was extremely excited, I’ve been trying to get him a touchdown for the last few weeks and I wanted to do it at Arrowhead (Stadium),” he said. “He has done so much for this organization, on and off the field. For him, the career he had is special. I know at the end of the day he wants to win the ring more than anything, but it’s great that he can have this success.”

Taylor Swift brought her family to Kansas City for Christmas last year and attended Kelce’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Despite a disappointing Chiefs loss in 2023, Kelce praised 32-year-old Austin Swift for reviving the holiday spirit by dressing up in a Santa suit and handing out personal gifts.
