Heavy rain and strong, damaging winds likely Wednesday – NBC Connecticut

Our NBC Connecticut StormTracker meteorologists are tracking a storm with heavy rain and strong, damaging winds set to hit the state on Wednesday. High wind warnings have been issued for New London, Middlesex and southern New Haven counties.

There will be isolated showers later Tuesday and overnight. Heavy showers are possible after midnight.

On Wednesday there will be heavy rain at times throughout the afternoon and evening. Strong thunderstorms are also possible on Wednesday evening.

Strong, gusty and damaging winds will continue on Wednesday. Gusts could reach up to 50 mph inland and more than 60 mph in southeastern Connecticut.

High wind warnings are in effect for Middlesex, north of New London, from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesday.
and southern New Haven counties.

Power outages are very likely. The most likely location for them would be the eastern half of the state.

Flood warnings have been issued for Hartford, Tolland and Litchfield counties.

Highs for Wednesday will be around 60.

Due to the heavy rain and strong winds expected across the state on Wednesday, Winterfest will be closed on Wednesday. It is expected to reopen as usual on Thursday.

On Thursday it will clear up quickly and become significantly colder with highs in the 40s.
