Here’s how much daylight Arizona will get

The official start of winter is almost here and that means the winter solstice is just around the corner.

Due to the Earth’s axial tilt, the winter solstice is the shortest day and longest night of the year. During this astronomical event, the Northern Hemisphere tilts farthest away from the Sun, making it appear at the lowest point in the sky.

This lack of sunlight leading up to the winter solstice also results in colder temperatures and a noticeable shift in circadian rhythms. At the solstice, Arizona will have about 10 hours of daylight and 14 hours of night. After that, the days gradually become longer.

What is the shortest day of the year?

The shortest day of the year – the winter solstice – is Saturday, December 21, 2024. In Arizona, the solstice will occur at exactly 2:21 a.m. Arizona time, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac.
