It’s finally Christmas! I hope all Strandsian puzzle solvers have a happy holiday and have a great time with their loved ones. Hopefully this valuable time consists of solving puzzles and playing games. I asked for Christmas themed strands this year and Santa really delivered. Let’s solve it!

Strands is the latest game in the New York Times puzzle game series. It’s a fun twist on classic word search games. Each day we are given a new topic and then have to reveal all the words on the grid that fit that topic, including a spangram that spans two sides of the board. One of those words is this Spangram This goes from one side of the grid to the other and reveals even more about the topic of the day.

Spoilers ahead.

Here is the finished Strands grid:

Today’s Strands breakdown

I found TOYS immediately and then noticed the ING next to it. Given that, I found the Spangram pretty quickly, and then it was just a matter of unscrambling the more difficult words. CANDY, CHARCOAL and PENS were just enough. Also SOCKS and SCARF. The left side of the board – specifically ORANGE and PLUSHIE – puzzled me for the longest time. Altogether, nine words is a lot for a strand – and a lot to stuff into a stocking. Merry Christmas, everyone!
