Hit-and-run in Point Loma: Pedestrian dead, 3 drivers fleeing

The collision happened around 5 a.m. at Nimitz Boulevard and West Point Loma Boulevard.

SAN DIEGO – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a speeding vehicle in Point Loma early Thursday morning.

According to San Diego police, the collision occurred around 5 a.m. at the intersection of Nimitz Boulevard and West Point Loma Boulevard.

Witnesses reported that the pedestrian, said to be in his 20s and has not yet been identified, was crossing Nimitz Boulevard when a dark BMW struck him. This vehicle was reportedly driving next to another car described as a white Mustang.

After the accident, the vehicles fled the scene.

Police have closed southbound Nimitz Boulevard between West Point Loma Boulevard and Sunset Cliffs Boulevard while the investigation continues.

In the hours after the collision, U.S. Naval Base Police located the abandoned BMW on Canon Street, south of Del Mar Avenue. The vehicle had severe frontal damage suggesting it was involved in the collision.

Police are currently actively searching for the other vehicle involved in the accident and its driver. It remains an ongoing death investigation, with authorities awaiting the coroner’s arrival to further examine the scene.
