How much is really at stake?

How much money would you risk your life for? In the Netflix series “Squid Game,” people in desperate financial situations agree to a potentially deadly game in hopes of winning an enormous cash prize.

Season 2 brings a new twist to the games. After each round, players can vote whether they want to end the games or continue playing.

This additional voting creates tension among players as some want to continue risking their lives to increase the prize pot, while others don’t find the risk worth it and want to go home.

The “Squid Game” cash prize hovers over the players’ heads.

How much is $45.6 billion in won?

The show has $45.6 billion won when, like Season 1, it comes down to a single winner.

Converting South Korean won to US dollars, the total prize amount as of December 27, 2024 is US$30,903,120, or about US$31 million.

Each game starts with 456 players. This means that each player’s life is worth 100 million won, which is equivalent to $67,851.

What are the prices for Season 2?

Pricing changes in Season 2. Voting could end games early, resulting in multiple winners splitting the prize pot, rather than requiring a single winner as in Season 1.

Before voting begins each time in Season 2, players will be told how much is currently in the prize pot and what share they would take home if the majority voted to leave at that point.

Each player’s share before the first vote would be US$24,931,500 won, which is a little less than US$17,000 per person.

Before the second vote, the prize pot increased. So if players were to leave at this point, they would each take home 78,823,530 won, which is just over $54,000 per person.

On the third vote, each player’s share would be $356,000,000, which is just over $241,000 per person.

The season will end before the Games but will continue in a third season, Netflix confirmed.
