How Nikki Glaser draws inspiration from Tom Brady to prepare for hosting the Golden Globes

Comedian and actress Nikki Glaser is preparing for one of the biggest moments of her career: hosting the 82nd annual Golden Globes. The event will be broadcast live on CBS on Sunday, January 5th.

Glaser, known for her brutally honest style, comes from years of hard work in the entertainment industry. She also makes history by becoming the first woman to host the show alone Golden Globes.

“It’s been a lot of hard work to get to this point in about a 22-year career where all of a sudden some people start noticing him on such a larger scale,” Glaser said. “I’m at a point in my life where I’m old enough to be able to handle this kind of attention and not let it go to my head anymore.”

Widely known for her raunchy and relatable stand-up specials, Glaser has earned a reputation for turning her personal experiences into comedy. Glaser owes her success to the insights she has learned and implemented throughout her career.

She also gained a lot of attention for her outstanding appearance on the Netflix series “The Roast of Tom Brady” earlier this year.

“The way I prepared for this … was inspired by learning about Tom Brady and his preparation,” Glaser said. “It’s about flexibility. It’s about surrounding yourself with people you love. I didn’t see it as part of my job at all. I just always thought you just have to work hard.”

During the interview, Glaser also reflected on the advice of those who have hosted major awards shows in the past.

“Ricky (Gervais) called me right away to give me advice,” she said. “His advice was, ‘Just be yourself. You’re not one of them. Don’t try to go out there and act like you’re one of them A lister just because you’re invited.’”

The comedian also earned her own recognition this year with her own nomination.

“It was really cool to get the nomination in addition to the preparation,” said Glaser. “For me, hosting comes first.”

Despite the pressure, Glaser is looking forward to the experience and is eager to perform. And victory is not a goal for Glaser.

“After receiving my award, I will do something else. I somehow find it funnier when I lose.”

The 82nd Annual Golden Globes will air live on CBS and stream on Paramount+ on January 5, 2025
