Hulu reunites Sterling K. Brown and This Is Us to create a very different series

Emmy-winning actor Sterling K. Brown reunites with this is us Creator Dan Fogelman for a new Hulu series, Paradise. Although details about the series are few, it will be significantly different from the teary family drama they previously worked on for six seasons, reports Entertainment Weekly.

Brown, who won an Emmy Award in 2017 for his performance as Randall Pearson This is us, Stars in it paradise as Secret Service agent Xavier Collins. In the series, he is tasked with guarding former United States President Cal Bradford, played by James Marsden (Sonic the Hedgehog 3). Bradford finds himself caught in a web of confusion after he is accused of killing his protégé.

Paradise premieres on Hulu in January

Paradise, The film, which premieres on Hulu on January 28, has been in the works for many years – even before Fogelman met Brown. Fogelman said the idea came to him in the years after 9/11 and the nervousness that many people felt during this time. “I was in a meeting with a very well-known businessman. And I sat in the meeting – I must have been 26, 27 years old – and thought to myself, ‘This is the richest, most powerful person I’ve ever been in a room with,'” Fogelman said.

He continued: “As I was leaving the meeting, a crane nearby dropped something and it caused a huge bang. It was still close enough to 9/11 to give you a shock that went beyond simply asking, “What’s going on?” It made me think, “God, I just left this meeting with the most powerful person I’ve maybe ever been in a room with, and.” When shit hits the fan, we’re all in the same boat. I wonder how long the loyalty to the people who care for him will last.”

Fogelman waited until This Is Us ended to write Paradise

After this is us When the story ended its successful run, Fogelman decided it was finally time to write the story. Only later did he realize that Brown would be perfect for the lead role. “I wrote the pilot script. And when I inevitably started giving it to people to read, people would ask me, “How long has Sterling been doing this?” And I realized, “In my mind’s eye, me have I imagined Sterling, but I’ve never spoken to him about it.’ I had already prepared the show and thought to myself, ‘Suddenly I can’t stop thinking about this, and Sterling will probably be busy or say no, and what should I do?'”

Brown says he owes much of his success to Fogelman

Luckily for Fogelman, Brown was available and eager to work with the author again. “After six years of no bad scripts, Dan Fogelman has a certain rapport with your boy.” Brown said. He also credits Fogelman’s support for his success in films.

“He supported us so much. He was one of the first people he raved about Waves. He’s seen me do a number of different things, and he hasn’t just enabled me to do things in the middle (This is us) Production. Black panther wouldn’t have happened; Waves wouldn’t have happened if Dan hadn’t said, ‘Yo, do your thing.'” Fogelman added of Brown: “There’s nothing I don’t think Sterling can do.”

paradise premieres January 28th on Hulu. In addition to Brown and Marsden, the series also stars Krys Marshall (For all humanity), Julianne Nicholson (Easttown mare), Sarah Shahi (Black Adam), and Nicole Brydon Bloom (The Gilded Age).

This Is Us is streaming on Peacock, Hulu and Netflix.
