Hutchinson CC football uses offense and new technology to win NJCAA national championship | sport

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) – Sitting in the middle of the Hutch trophy stand is a reminder of two years ago.

“I still have some feeling about it,” Hutchinson CC sophomore running back Waymond Jordan Jr. said.

“That’s in the past and we can’t worry about the past, we just have to worry about now,” Hutchinson CC sophomore quarterback Samari Collier said.

In 2024, her strength was staying present.

Hutchinson has a 10-1 record behind senior quarterback Samari Collier and nationally leading rusher Waymond Jordan Jr. – talents that will help the program create one of the most productive offenses in JUCO football.

“Watching film and just preparing. “We prepared a lot better than before and practiced a lot harder than before,” Jordan Jr. said.

“The talk was about just going out there and playing our style of football. If we play our brand of football, there is no one in the country who can play with us,” Collier said.

When they’re in that groove, it’s hard for Hutch to stop putting up a nation-best 478 yards of offense. But it’s their response to adversity throughout the season that made the difference.

“Their resilience… I think they’ve done a really good job of erasing the past and just moving on and moving forward,” Hutchinson CC head coach Drew Dallas said. “That’s why we’re in this right now.”

However, your success is determined not only by performance, but also by statistics. Hutchinson joined teams like Kansas State in taking over the ANSRS analytics program this season. Artificial intelligence software that allows teams to enter and analyze game data and video in real time, increasing the Blue Dragons’ efficiency.

“The first thing that came to my mind was, wow, how much time this can save us, how much efficiency this can bring us and how many more answers we can get from this program alone,” Hutchinson offensive coordinator Tony Koehling said .

Currently used by eight Power Four schools and the Washington Commanders, ANSRS serves as a game-changer in breaking trends on both sides and helping Hutchinson set game plans more quickly.

“Especially smaller employees who need help with workflows and improving efficiency, etc.,” Koehling said.

“It was good for us to just be able to break free,” Dallas said.

Feel faster and freer as Hutch heads into his third national title game in five years, picking up another win in a rematch for the 2022 title game at Iowa Western.

“It’s an opportunity that many people don’t get in life,” said Koehling.

An opportunity to get the Blue Dragons back on top and end their JUCO career in style.

“It’s a bit like roulette. It’s a separate spin each time, there is no probability. We have a great opportunity in front of us,” Dallas added.

“We have to get him. I want this ring on my finger. I want him,” Collier chuckled.

No. 3 seed Hutchinson CC will face No. 1 seed Iowa Western on Wednesday, Dec. 18 for the NJCAA Division I National Championship Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium in Canyon, TX is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT.
