Igor Shesterkin gives honest thoughts on the trade drama and struggles plaguing the Rangers

There may be a lot being said about Igor Shesterkin these days regarding his current play and his future with the New York Rangers, but the superstar goalie doesn’t seem to care.

In 18 games played this season, Shesterkin has a record of 8-9-1 with a .908 save percentage and 3.05 goals against average.

The Rangers have lost six of their last seven games, with the team currently playing some of its worst hockey.

Meanwhile, Shesterkin’s contract situation remains a mystery and that has caused a lot of excitement and outside speculation.

However, the rumors surrounding his name and the trade rumors surrounding the Rangers don’t cross Shesterkin’s mind.

“I don’t read and I try not to hear about it,” Shesterkin said of all the noise outside. “I just concentrate on my game, on my training and on my family. This is it.”

Much like some of the other players in the locker room, Shesterkin isn’t hitting the panic button about the Rangers’ latest gaffe.

The 28-year-old knows that difficulties are natural and feels the team simply has to overcome them.

“Sometimes it happens, it’s sport,” Shesterkin said. “Sometimes you have bad days, sometimes you have good days. You just have to stay confident and just do what you do and work hard every day.”

Overall, Shesterkin is a quiet guy and a man who says few words. He lets his piece speak for itself.

You might not think Shesterkin is the leader type, and he’s more reserved in the locker room. On the ice, the veteran goalie finds his voice by leading both vocally and by example.

“I’m vocal in my thoughts,” Shesterkin said with a laugh. “Sometimes I don’t like to talk too much. Sometimes it happens, but usually it happens on the ice, not in the locker room.”

Both the Rangers and Shesterkin have been through crises before. The real test now comes: how they will ultimately deal with it.

They either build on these struggles or let them tear them down.
