GREEN BAY (WLUK) — For those traveling the day after Christmas, it’s not the snow that’s impacting travelers.

“It’s pretty foggy today and some roads are icy today,” Wisconsin State Trooper Zachary Sincoular said Thursday.

Heavy, dense fog is making it difficult to see the roads ahead, and Sincoular says it’s important for drivers to remain vigilant given the busy roads following the holidays.

“You want to make sure you leave enough space between yourself and other moving vehicles, and especially with the thick fog we have today, it comes in bursts so it can be clear in one place and foggy in another, so “Make sure you turn on your headlights,” he adds.

With temperatures hovering around freezing point, black ice could also pose a danger to drivers, he warns. The best way to combat such conditions is to make sure the tires have enough tread, he says.

With fog forecast through Saturday, soldiers are prepared to help travelers after an already busy week.

“Especially in the last few small storms we’ve had, we’ve had a lot of people falling into ditches or causing minor accidents. So we had to provide assistance on site and get people home and safe.”

Sincoular reminds us that no one is immune from the conditions on the road.

“Winter driving conditions, we can say that we are from Wisconsin and are used to driving in the snow, but the truth is there were 11,000 accidents and 9 fatalities during the winter driving season last year, so just make sure you “Pay attention.”
