Insights, observations from the first half as the Ravens hold a 17-10 lead over the Steelers

It wasn’t a great start, but the Ravens once again had a 17-10 lead over the Steelers at halftime with 30 minutes to play at M&T Bank Stadium.

Baltimore had 201 yards of offense and took a 5-2 lead on third down in the first half. Pittsburgh has 170 yards of offense, 2-4 on third down and one turnover in an extremely intense first half.

As the second half begins, here are insights and observations from the first half.

Ravens fed Derrick Henry early

On the first offensive play from scrimmage, Henry got a few more yards on the carry on first down. On the second pass, Henry came out on top, scoring a 22-point lead on second down that nearly went the distance. In total, Henry had 13 carries for 75 yards (5.8 yards average) in the first half.

Ravens linebacker Malik Harrison started at outside linebacker with Tavius ​​Robinson and Trenton Simpson on the sideline; Chris Board got the start alongside Roquan Smith.

Ravens have problems with ball security early

Baltimore has talked about being efficient with the football, but that wasn’t the case early on. The Ravens fumbled twice and recovered both. Lamar Jackson was pulled, but Ronnie Stanley recovered. Desmond King fumbled after a nice punt return, but Chris Board jumped on the ball.

Isaiah will likely pick up the slack

Baltimore will be without Nelson Agholor and Rashod Bateman is injured, but we’ve talked about Mark Andrews and Isaiah likely having a significant impact. After a great play by Lamar Jackson, he probably got on the field early with a nine-yard touchdown. Probably had three catches for 29 yards and the touchdown.

With George Pickens injured, Russell Wilson found early outlets in Van Jefferson and Ben Skowronek. Jefferson had a 21-yard catch that gave the Steelers first score against tight end MyCole Pruitt. Running back Jaylen Warren led Pittsburgh with three catches for 38 yards.

After the Ravens scored, Pittsburgh responded immediately. Wilson hit MyCole Pruitt for a 1-yard touchdown pass. Wilson was 6 of 6 for 63 yards and a score on the drive. Overall, Wilson is 12-16 passing for 110 yards, one touchdown and a score of 114. Wilson has three runs for 27 yards and a fumble.

With a 14-yard TD pass to Rashod Bateman, Lamar Jackson tied the Ravens’ franchise record – which he set in 2019 (his first NFL MVP season) – with his 36th touchdown pass of the season.

Overall, Jackson is 8-15 passing for 89 yards, two touchdowns and a rating of 110.8.
