International Star talks opposites attracting the on-the-fly team and I need more in 2025

FBI: International Season 4 will conclude its run on the 2024 TV schedule with the midseason finale on December 17, shortly after adding a new agent to the Fly Team in Agent Tyler Booth, played by Station 19This is Jay Hayden. Since the actor is expected to remain on the 2025 TV schedule for a while longer (and his first episode is available to stream with a Paramount+ subscription), I think back to what Hayden told me about the team member in our interview that doesn’t There was I like Tyler… and why opposites could attract in the new year. Full disclosure: I don’t understand Jay Hayden’s words about his decision to come into his own FBI: International so soon after Station 19 which means a romance is in the works as the FBI Since the days of Forrester and Kellett, the spin-off has managed to avoid romantic sparks within the team. But his comments certainly make me think about changing dynamics in 2025. After Hayden suggested that Smitty (Eva-Jane Willis) was “more of the angel on (Wes’) shoulder” while Tyler was more of “the devil,” I noticed – as a bit of an understatement – that Smitty didn’t seem to be Tyler’s biggest fan. The actor laughed and replied:

She doesn’t do that! She doesn’t seem to be in love with him, that’s for sure.

If Smitty thought Wes Mitchell was a headache for her when he joined the Fly Team, she definitely wasn’t prepared for Tyler Booth wasting no time in not only breaking the rules himself, but relying on them to do so Wes pushes the boundaries. While the Fly Team managed to close the case without causing an international incident in Jay Hayden’s first episode, things could have very easily gone wrong, and the credits rolled without showing the rest of the team’s reactions to welcoming Wes Tyler meant staying here.

I further asked Hayden who he thought Tyler had the best connection with on the team other than Wes, aside from their “baggage” – to quote Jesse Lee Soffer – and was quite intrigued by his answer:

I think there is a connection between Vo and him. That may not be the case, they may not have many scenes together, but I think he really appreciates what she does as a team. And then, to be honest, I don’t know – it’s like the opposites attract with him and Smitty there. These waves will crash into each other. It’s just a matter of when.

Tyler and Vo (Vinessa Vidotto) shared a brief moment of bonding as they compared their origins at the start of his first episode, but most of his scenes starred Jesse Lee Soffer as Wes. However, the biggest argument understandably came from Tyler and Smitty. He had been there for a day at most and was already suggesting that they infiltrate a country without alerting the local authorities and actually kidnap a man, which was obviously not the goal that the Fly Team’s Europol liaison was working towards.

I suggested to Jay Hayden that Smitty, similar to Wes after his first case in Budapest, looked like she had a headache after working with Tyler, and he replied:

It looks like she’s saying, “I’m not done with you yet.” It’s going to be a lot of fun.

All in all, while I expected more from Wes and Tyler and was intrigued by the moment of bonding between Vo and Tyler, the series seems ready to focus more on Wes and Vo and whatever their dynamic as a former mentor may be likes /mentee. It would be interesting to see more of Tyler and Smitty. FBI: International is a show that isn’t afraid to try new things and reinvent itself; More than half of the original cast was replaced halfway through season four, and the series is still going strong.

The fall finale of FBI: International airs Tuesday, December 17 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS FBI with a possible betrayal for OA at 8pm ET and FBI: Most Wanted at 10 p.m. ET. All three shows will return to their usual broadcast times on Monday, January 27th in the new year.
