Iowa football quarterback Cade McNamara is entering the transfer portal

After two seasons in Iowa City, Cade McNamara is looking for his next home in college football.

He announced his intention to enter the transfer portal on social media Wednesday morning.

McNamara was the Hawkeyes’ starting quarterback for both the 2023 and 2024 seasons and struggled with injury issues in both years. He began his career at Michigan as a member of the 2019 recruiting class and played 21 games for the Wolverines over four years before transferring to Iowa after the 2022 season.

A one-game suspension for Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz was reportedly due to the program’s “inappropriate contact” with McNamara before he entered the transfer portal in 2022.

In two years at Iowa, McNamara amassed 1,522 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. He played in 13 games.

Iowa finished the regular season with a record of 8-4.

Next year will be McNamara’s seventh in college football.
