Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds is selecting state Sen. Chris Cournoyer for lieutenant governor

Update: Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has named Senator Chris Cournoyer as the new lieutenant governor. Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds is expected to announce her pick for a new lieutenant governor on Monday morning. Her office says she will hold a news conference at 10:30 a.m. where she will make a “special announcement.” Watch the announcement live in the video player above. Iowa has been without a lieutenant governor since Adam Gregg resigned from office in September to take the helm of the Iowa Bankers Association. Gregg said in a statement that “my time in public service must come to an end.” “In my time as lieutenant governor, I have found that for every good thing that happens in our state, there is an Iowa bank to support it supported,” he said. “Now I have the great honor of representing this industry that is so critical to Iowa’s success.” Reynolds, who served as lieutenant governor for former Gov. Terry Branstad, appointed Gregg to the position in May 2017, when Branstad was named U.S. ambassador to the United States China was appointed and Reynolds became governor. The Republican was elected to a full term in 2018 and re-elected in 2022. Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds is expected to announce her pick for a new lieutenant governor Monday morning. Her office says she will hold a press conference at 10:30 a.m. where she will make a “special announcement.”

Iowa has been without a lieutenant governor since Adam Gregg resigned from office in September to take the helm of the Iowa Bankers Association.

Gregg said in a statement that “my time in public service must come to an end.”
