Iowa Hawkeyes land brutal injury news before bowl game

The Iowa Hawkeyes are preparing to face the Missouri Tigers in the Music City Bowl next Monday, but they just received some very untimely injury news.

Hawkeye Report’s Tom Kakert has revealed that Iowa center Logan Jones is wearing a cast on his right hand, which appears to cast doubt on his status for the Missouri game.

Jones has been a linchpin on the Hawkeyes’ very solid offensive line all season, so this is definitely some of the worst news imaginable for Iowa.

The Hawkeyes are already without superstar running back Kaleb Johnson, who has announced he will skip the bowl game to prepare for the NFL Draft.

Iowa is hoping to put an end to some pretty ugly recent bowl repeats.

In January 2022, the Hawkeyes were defeated by the Kentucky Wildcats 20-17. Then, last winter, Iowa was completely beaten by the Tennessee Volunteers, 35-0.

In fact, Iowa has generally gone 0-4 in its last four games against ranked opponents, outscoring them 127-7. No, that’s not a typo.

The Hawkeyes last lost 35-7 to the Ohio State Buckeyes on October 5th.

Iowa is clearly trying to shed the reputation that it can’t beat good teams, but being without Johnson and possibly Jones certainly won’t do Kirk Ferentz’s club any favors.

On the other hand, Missouri will be without top receiver Luther Burden as he, like Johnson, prepares for the NFL Draft.
