Iowa Hawkeyes star RB unsure about playing in bowl game

Kaleb Johnson and the Iowa Hawkeyes pulled out a hard-fought and ugly 13-10 victory over the Nebraska Cornhuskers in their final game of the regular season. Now they will begin their bowl game, which will be announced in the near future.

That being said, there is a real question about Johnson’s status for this bowl game.

Johnson appears to be on his way to the NFL. He’s not expected to be a first-round pick, but there’s a good chance he ends up being a second-rounder.

There’s a chance he could sit out the bowl game to avoid potential injury.

While he could choose to opt out, it certainly sounds like he’d rather play. As Chad Leistikow of the Des Moines Register reported, Johnson said he would “probably” play in the bowl game. However, he said he hasn’t decided for sure yet.

Should Johnson choose not to play in this game, Iowa would have a much more difficult task ahead of them.

After finishing the regular season with an 8-4 record, the Hawkeyes have a good chance of facing a very tough opponent. Without Johnson, the Iowa offense would have a very difficult time producing anything at all.

So far this season, Johnson has put up monstrous numbers. Before the Nebraska game, he carried the football 223 times for 1,492 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Johnson had a relatively quiet game against the Cornhuskers. He managed just 45 yards on 17 carries, but caught two passes for 73 yards and a touchdown.

With that in mind, it will be interesting to see what Johnson decides to do. It sounds like he’ll end up playing, but that’s no guarantee at the moment.

Fans will have to wait a while for the outstanding running back’s final decision.
