Q2 4:37, 20-19 MSU – Ugly, ugly basketball

So far, this hasn’t been an aesthetically pleasing brand of basketball for either team. The teams combined for 23 turnovers and shot 37.1% from the field.

The good news for Iowa, however, is that Taylor McCabe got the game started with a three-pointer off a nice turnaround pass from Addison O’Grady, and the Hawkeyes outscored their opponents 15-9. But everything was a struggle.

Let’s see if a team can get a bit of a lead by halftime.

End 1: 16-12 MSU – Hawkeyes are sloppy again

After doing a good job of limiting turnovers last game, Iowa has been sloppy so far and already has seven giveaways. Kylie Feuerbach is responsible for three of them.

It is also a bad development that Hannah Stülke, who leads all scorers with seven points and has brought tremendous energy so far, is sitting on the bench with two fouls.

Lucy Olsen is also off to a slow start. She missed all three shots and the Hawkeyes will need her lethal strike to keep pace with this undefeated team.

Gabbie Marshall was spotted in the crowd

Fan favorite Gabbie Marshall was shown on the broadcast watching the game from the stands.

Q1 4:27, 9-9 – Hard-fought points so far

The pace was a little slower to start, but it’s good for the Hawkeyes to get Kylie Feuerbach a three-pointer early. She has struggled a lot this year but can be dangerous when confident and in rhythm.

However, she then lost the ball twice.

Hannah Stuelke also reached the foul line and scored an early basket. Your presence in front of MSU’s impressive front court will be crucial today.

Is Sydney Affolter back?

Affolter had her best game of the season against Iowa State.

Here’s what Hawkeyes reporter Dargan Southard had to say about their performance:

“It’s hard to argue that anyone needed Wednesday’s show more than she did.”

“Returning to the field after offseason knee surgery has been ups and downs, a result of Affolter’s high expectations for herself as a program leader. She hadn’t quite looked like the player Iowa needed until now.”

“Affolter more than doubled her production downtown with three treys and 16 points against the Cyclones, while she also added six rebounds and two assists. Five of those points came in the fourth quarter and gave Iowa the momentum.”

“The aggressiveness that Affolter displayed during her late rise to prominence last season has finally returned in the way Jensen had hoped.”

Do you think she has fully recovered from her offseason knee surgery?

Iowa vs. Michigan State prediction

forecast: This could be a great matchup for the Hawkeyes. Michigan State has two strong players who can score and rebound, and the Spartans’ defense has been stout so far. Both factors have the potential to put the Hawkeyes in a good mood, especially away from home. So expect Iowa to lose its Big Ten Conference opener in a tough matchup.
