Boxing score between Iowa and Rhode Island

7:22 p.m. CT November 28, 2024

Final score: Iowa 69, Rhode Island 62

Some interesting (and mostly encouraging) stats from this game as Iowa found a way to win without its veteran point guard:

  • Addi O’Grady 8-for-9 from the field and 2-for-2 from the free throw line. She just doesn’t miss anything. She had 3 blocks on defense.
  • Aaliyah Guyton 7 points, 2 assists, 1 steal and 1 block in 15 minutes.
  • Sydney Affolter 9 rebounds.
  • But… 22 turnovers. Ouch. Including six from freshman Taylor Stremlow (the positive is that she had four assists and undoubtedly learned a lot in her 25 minutes of action).

Q4, 1:44 left: Iowa leads 65-57

Addi O’Grady now has 18 points. Jan Jensen takes some time out to get her team to the finish line.

Iowa is looking for a rare 7-0 record

The Hawkeyes would be 7-0 if they could win tonight’s game. That hasn’t happened since the 2017/18 season.

Iowa leads by 10 with 5:29 left.

Addi O’Grady takes over

Three baskets and an assist for the Colorado senior in the quarter, and Rhode Island has seen enough and is calling a timeout. Iowa leads 57-49.

Late third quarter: Iowa and Rhode Island are tied at 49

It’s now a 10 minute game. The Hawkeyes and Rams began to find their offensive rhythm in this third quarter, with Iowa scoring 24 and Rhode Island 23.

It will be interesting to see if Iowa can get some stops and keep the offense going in the final frame.

6:45 p.m. CT November 28, 2024

Taylor McCabe is heating up

The junior sharpshooter from Nebraska scored seven points, two three-pointers and a two-pointer.

Iowa leads 48-43 with 1:52 left in the third quarter. Rhode Island had to use a timeout to cool down McCabe.

6:39 p.m. CT November 28, 2024

Q3, 3:52 left: Iowa 40, Rhode Island 39

Aaliyah Guyton’s first three-pointers as a Hawkeye came at the right time. She quickly scored two goals in a row, giving a boost to Iowa’s struggling offense.

Addi O’Grady also gave Iowa a boost in the third quarter with two baskets and an assist.

6:16 p.m. CT November 28, 2024

End of first half: Rhode Island 26, Iowa 25

The Hawkeyes have a fight on their hands. Coach Jan Jensen and her team will have to be creative in how they get enough offense to win this game without the injured Lucy Olsen.

Neither team does much on offense. Rhode Island is shooting 36%, Iowa is shooting 37%. The Hawkeyes are 2 of 12 from 3-point range.

Iowa’s Kylie Feuerbach led the way with 10 points in the first half (eight in the first quarter). Hannah Stülke is next with six.

Anaelle Dutat leads Rhode Island with six points.

Halftime stats

Q2, 4:35 left: Iowa leads 23-18

Iowa is certainly missing Lucy Olsen in this game so far. Points are difficult to score and there are too many turnovers (10).

Iowa shot just 10 of 25 from the field and 2 of 10 from the field.

5:53 p.m. CT November 28, 2024

End of first quarter: Iowa 19, Rhode Island 15

The Rams hang on and stay close for the first 10 minutes. Five players scored for Rhode Island, none more than four points.

Kylie Feuerbach led Iowa with eight points. Sydney Affolter is next with five points. Hannah Stülke has four.

Pretty sloppy offense from both teams. Seven turnovers for Rhode Island and six for Iowa.

5:45 p.m. CT November 28, 2024

Eight quick points for Kylie Feuerbach

The Iowa guard started 3-for-4 with two three-pointers from the field. The Hawkeyes lead 11-6 midway through the first quarter.

Full quote from Jan Jensen on Lucy Olsen’s injury

From the Hawkeye Radio Network pregame show:

“We were getting ready for practice when she just tripped, jumped off the ground and hit a ledge,” Jensen said. “She had a pretty serious cut on her knee. Luckily we had some team documents with us and were able to take care of it. But it’s just a game-by-game situation because it was a pretty significant cut. But nothing that would change the season or the season.” -End. It’s just a pretty tough cut. We just want to be careful and be smart because the season is still very young and when it’s ready to go.

5:33 p.m. CT November 28, 2024

Lucy Olsen is questionable for the Hawkeyes tonight

Iowa coach Jan Jensen said on the pregame show that Lucy Olsen tripped during practice and her knee “hit a ledge,” causing a large gash on her knee. Taylor Stremlow will start for Olsen tonight. Jensen said Olsen will take it game by game in Cancun.
