Is Breece Hall playing today? Jets injury update and fantasy football replacement

The New York Jets don’t have much to offer at this point in the season other than draft compensation. Yes, the Jets can determine exactly where they pick in the first round in the coming weeks. For Aaron Rodgers — a player with a lot of pride and perhaps future dollars on the line — he won’t feel bad about hurting New York’s draft stock and playing to win.

The same goes for interim coach Jeff Ulbrich. While it’s generally not advisable to keep the interim coach long-term – I’m thinking of you, Antonio Pierce – the Jets maintain that Ulbrich will receive some attention in due course. Whether they mean it that way or not remains unclear.

Rodgers is well into his 40s at this point, so the offense no longer runs through the arm of the veteran quarterback like it once did. Rather, it is up to the players with the practiced position to use his football IQ to their advantage. One of those players, running back Breece Hall, is listed as questionable against the Jaguars.

According to Adam Schefter, Hall should play against the Jaguars, although it is unclear what share of the carries he will receive. Hall is one of the best young running backs in the NFL when healthy, although that has been a bit of a problem for the Jets this season. Hall has 692 yards and six touchdowns this season. He also missed one game and was injured in others. Behind Hall are Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis.

Allen has been productive when given consistent playing time this season. Given that Hall isn’t at 100 percent, expect Allen to get a heavier-than-normal workload behind the Jets starting RB on Sunday afternoon.

This week is playoff time across fantasy football leagues. If Hall is on the roster, he’s worth a start – managers didn’t spend a first-round pick on him for nothing. However, managers shouldn’t be surprised if the Jets are cautious with Hall. They don’t have much to offer, and Hall is one of their most valuable assets going forward.

If Hall tests his knee for some reason on Sunday afternoon and can’t go, a last-minute pick-up should be his replacement, Allen or Tank Bigsby if he’s available.
