Is Iowa PG playing Tennessee today?

Iowa senior point guard Lucy Olsen was injured in a freak accident during the Hawkeyes’ trip to the Cancun Challenge.

Before one of Iowa’s practices at the Cancun Challenge, Olsen tripped off elevated ground and injured his knee. Because of this laceration, the 5-foot-10 guard had to sit out every Iowa game against Rhode Island and BYU.

Earlier this week, Iowa women’s basketball head coach Jan Jensen updated her star’s injury status. Olsen is scheduled to face Tennessee (6-0) tonight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY

“It’s more likely that Olsen will come back because she’s so tough,” Jensen said Tuesday. “I think we’ll just have to see how it responded (Tuesday) with a lot more reps and see what it looks like (Wednesday). I’m optimistic, but I’ll feel even better (Wednesday) when I hear the report that it responded pretty well.”

Olsen also met with the media this week and detailed how the injury occurred.

“It’s so silly,” Olsen said this week. “We were just about to train and I stumbled off the pitch because it was elevated. And then I fell. And then there was something like a tile and I skinned my knee on it. It just cut it open.”

Olsen is averaging 17.3 points per game, a team-high. The Collegeville, Pennsylvania native is also averaging 5.3 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game while shooting 48.9% from the field and 68.8% from the charity stripe.

Olsen was the third-leading scorer in the country a season ago at Villanova.

In Olsen’s absence, Iowa beat Rhode Island 69-62 on Thanksgiving Day and beat BYU 68-48 the following day.

Junior forward Hannah Stuelke scored a combined 29 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the two wins.

Tipoff against the Volunteers is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the game will be televised on Fox.
