Is Ladd McConkey playing today? Latest updates on Chargers WR vs Buccaneers

The LA Chargers had to face the Kansas City Chiefs last week without the team’s top weapon, Ladd McConkey. Even without McConkey, who is dealing with a shoulder and knee injury, the Chargers were able to push the Chiefs to their limits (albeit with a slow offense in the first half).

McConkey finds himself in a familiar spot heading into Week 15, as he was officially listed as questionable on the Chargers’ final injury report of the week. This is the same designation he had prior to Week 14.

The Chargers are looking to get back on track with the team’s ninth win of the season, while certain fantasy football players may need McConkey in the first playoff week of the fantasy season. Whether you’re a Chargers fan or a fantasy football player, we’ve got you covered.

Chargers fans received a promising update on McConkey’s status late Saturday night. While nothing is official yet, the stars appear to be aligned for the rookie wideout to start against Tampa Bay.

According to NFL insider Ian RapoportThe Chargers will work out McConkey to see if he is fit for the game. According to Rapoport, the Chargers are “optimistic” that McConkey has a “real chance” to play against the Bucs.

This is consistent with McConkey’s recovery timeline and is the most likely outcome. The decision for McConkey came in the game last week, so it’s not like he’s coming back from a serious injury that has kept him completely on hold.

Additionally, McConkey didn’t miss a single practice before the start of Week 15. The rookie wideout was a limited participant in each practice, but the fact that he was able to practice every day is a good sign for him.

With Justin Herbert no longer on the injury report and the Bucs boasting one of the worst pass defenses in sports, there is real potential for McConkey to have a big game not only for the Bolts, but for fantasy football owners as well. When we last saw McConkey, he rushed for over 100 yards in the first half before injuring his knee in the second half.

If there is a last-minute setback and McConkey can’t go, fantasy football players should turn first to Quentin Johnston and then to Joshua Palmer as a possible replacement. Johnston has more end zone potential and more upside for those who get into trouble late in the game.

But given the way things are going, that may not even be a decision that needs to be made.
