Isaac Wilson decides to return to Utah

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 Sports) – At second glance, Isaac Wilson is returning to Utah.

Eight days after announcing he was entering the transfer portal, Wilson announced he was returning to Utah, where he will compete with New Mexico transfer Devon Dampier for the quarterback job.

Wilson wrote on

As a freshman, Wilson threw for 1,510 yards and 10 touchdowns and started seven games in place of injured starter Cam Rising.

The original plan was for Wilson to learn behind Rising, but after Rising suffered injuries against Baylor and Arizona State, Wilson was thrown into the fire.

Offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig resigned midway through the season and was replaced by Mike Bajakian. But Wilson and the Utes’ offense continued to struggle.

New Mexico native Jason Beck has been hired as Utah’s new offensive coordinator. Beck led the Logos to the fourth-highest attack in the country with Dampier at center.

Two other Utah quarterbacks, Brandon Rose and Sam Huard, remain in the transfer portal. Rising has not yet announced its intentions.
