IU travels to Notre Dame for the first round of the College Football Playoff

Indiana will be well-represented in the fight for the national championship, with the Hoosiers and the Irish going head-to-head.

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Hoosiers are playing for a national championship.

The Hoosiers are seeded 10th in the playoff round. That means they will face Notre Dame in the first round of the playoffs on December 20th or 21st.

After losing their only game of the year at Ohio State on Nov. 23, the Hoosiers bounced back to defeat rival Purdue 66-0.

Notre Dame will open the playoffs at home, taking on IU at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana. The Fighting Irish, who have won 10 straight games since their Sept. 7 upset of Northern Illinois.

The four top-ranked conference champions received byes in the playoff round. The remaining eight teams will play each other on December 20th or 21st at the home stadium of the higher ranked team. A total of five conference champions receive a spot in the playoffs.

The quarterfinal games will take place on December 31 and January 1 in the Fiesta, Peach, Rose and Sugar Bowls, while the semifinal games will take place on January 9 and 10 in the Orange and Cotton Bowl.

The CFP National Championship will be played on Monday, January 20th in Atlanta.
