James Kennedy “yelled orders” to a friend hours before his arrest.

Nick Viall sheds new light on James Kennedy’s behavior the night of his arrest.

During a December 12th episode The Viall files, Viall, 44, shared an anecdote about an interaction he witnessed at Kathy Hilton’s Christmas party on Tuesday, Dec. 10, involving Kennedy and a friend he brought to the party.

Hours after the party ended, Kennedy, 32, was arrested at his LA home on domestic violence charges, police tell PEOPLE. (Viall’s episode was recorded and broadcast before news of Kennedy’s arrest broke on December 12.)

At the party, Viall said he and his wife, Natalie Joy, saw Kennedy and his girlfriend Ally Lewber, took a photo with them and met a friend who Kennedy had brought to the party and whom he “introduced as his best friend.” A few minutes later, Viall said he saw the DJ walk by and start “yelling orders” to the friend he had brought to the party.

“I’m the only one who saw it. Natalie didn’t even see it. “Natalie was deep in conversation with the other person we were talking to,” Viall recalls. “James walks by, and then James turns around and says to his friend, “I forgot his friend’s name. Let’s say his friend’s name is Sam. And (James) says, ‘Sam! Stop that! Now.’ … And his friend just grabbed the drink and James kept walking and I thought … That was crazy.”

“I was like, ten minutes earlier I met this guy who he introduced as his best friend and then ten minutes later he was barking orders,” Viall added.

PEOPLE has reached out to Kennedy for comment.

The revelation about Kennedy’s behavior Tuesday night came after Burbank police confirmed to PEOPLE that they responded to a 911 call “regarding an argument between a man and a woman” at Kennedy’s home around 11:30 p.m. It is currently unclear if the woman affected was Lewber.

“The investigation revealed that this was a domestic incident that led to (Kennedy’s) arrest,” the police spokesman said. “(Kennedy) was charged with domestic violence and later released on bail. The formal charges remain pending review by the Burbank City Attorney’s Office.”

TMZ first broke the news, citing law enforcement sources and reporting that a witness saw it Vanderpump Rules Alum became violent with the unnamed woman, although authorities found no injuries when they arrived at the scene. He was released on $20,000 bail.

Following news of Kennedy’s arrest, an insider told PEOPLE that he “acted super aggressively all night” at Hilton’s party.

“He was acting so erratically, running back and forth to the bar, checking on people as he went,” the insider said. “He seemed drunk. He spent most of the evening alone, but when he spoke to people he seemed irritable and rude.”

Kennedy and Lewber did not respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
