Hollywood actor Jamie Foxx was injured after being hit in the mouth with a glass. He was reportedly involved in a “physical altercation” during the birthday party.

A representative for Foxx said the 57-year-old comedian “required stitches and is now recovering” following the incident at Mr Chow restaurant in Beverly Hills, California.

They told Sky News’ US affiliate NBC News that someone at another table “threw a glass that hit him in the mouth” and that the matter was now “in the hands of law enforcement.”

The Beverly Hills Police Department (BHPD) said it received a call about a “possible assault with a deadly weapon” at the restaurant shortly after 10 p.m. local time on Friday.

When officers arrived at the scene, they determined that the report was “unfounded” and that the incident was instead a “physical altercation between the parties.”

Police said they “conducted a preliminary investigation” and prepared a report “documenting the battery.”

BHPD did not name Foxx in its press release, but police sources told celebrity news site TMZ that the actor was involved in the altercation.

There were no arrests.

Foxx celebrated his birthday on Friday and was reportedly at the restaurant with his two daughters and his former partner Kristin Grannis.

The incident follows the release of Foxx’s Netflix special “What Had Happened Was…” earlier this month, in which he talks about how he suffered a brain hemorrhage last year that led to a stroke.

Foxx said he underwent surgery at a hospital in Atlanta and then underwent rehabilitation at a facility in Chicago.
