Jamie Foxx speaks out after birthday dinner altercation

Jamie Foxx is thanking fans for their support after an altercation at his birthday dinner left him needing stitches.

A rep for the 57-year-old Oscar winner told PEOPLE on Saturday, December 14, that Foxx was “recovering” after someone “threw a glass in his mouth” during the outing the night before.

Now, after reposting some happy birthday wishes on his Instagram Stories, Foxx gave fans an update, writing in an Instagram post: “The devil is busy… but I’m too blessed to be stressed.”

“The devil is a lie,” Foxx added in the post’s caption. “There’s no winning here…Thank you to everyone who prays and cares for me…when your light shines bright…they try to bring you darkness…but they don’t know that’s what you were made for…the lights were it.” beams bright…”

Over the weekend, a rep for Foxx told PEOPLE that “someone from another table” threw a glass in his direction while he was outside celebrating his birthday. TMZ reported that the outing with Mr. Chow took place in Beverly Hills, California.

According to the outlet and The Daily MailFoxx’s daughters Corinne and Anelise and ex-Kristin Grannis also attended the meeting.

Foxx had to “get stitches” after the ordeal, his rep also said.

In a press release obtained by PEOPLE, Beverly Hills police said authorities were called to the restaurant around 10 p.m. local time on Friday evening for an alleged fight inside the restaurant.

“During the investigation, officers determined that the reported assault with a deadly weapon was unfounded,” police said. “Instead, the incident resulted in a physical altercation between the parties.”

“BHPD conducted a preliminary investigation and prepared a report documenting the battery. No arrests have been made,” they added.

Earlier this week, Foxx celebrated the release of his Netflix special in which he confirmed that he suffered a stroke that almost killed him while filming his upcoming film Back in action in Atlanta. When discussing the medical emergency that began on April 11, 2023, he also mentioned a “brain hemorrhage that led to a stroke.”

Foxx’s next film, starring Cameron Diaz, will be released on Netflix on January 17th. He’s working on it too All-Star Weekendas co-writer and director, with the film also featuring appearances by Jeremy Piven, Robert Downey Jr. and Eva Longoria, among others.
