Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah was at his absolute best on the second day of the team’s third Test against Australia at The Gabba in Brisbane. Bumrah shone with figures of 5 for 72 and helped the visitors make a strong comeback in the game after Travis Head suffered his marathon 152-run knock. Australia ended the day on 405 for 7 with Alex Carey and Mitchell Starc at the crease. It was Bumrah’s magic spell with the second new ball that helped India get back on their feet. Australia were 316 for 3 when Bumrah opened the gates for the visitors.

This happened to be Bumrah’s 12th five-wicket haul in Test cricket and his eighth in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia). He is the first Indian to achieve this. Bumrah broke the record of the legendary Kapil Dev, who is now at the second position in the list with 7 whistles.

Speaking of the game, Travis Head and Steve Smith, the two century makers, put on a fourth-wicket partnership of 241 as Australia ended the day as winners.

Head scored a magnificent 152 and Smith a strong 101 at the Gabba in Brisbane, putting Australia in good position to take a 2-1 lead in the five-Test series.

With rain forecast over the next three days, India appears to have virtually no chance of a win and can realistically only hope for a draw.

After washing out all but 13.2 overs of the first day on Saturday, India started strongly on Sunday with three wickets in the first hour.

But Head and Smith knocked India out of the game, despite an excellent performance from pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah (5-72) after tea with the second new ball.

At the end of the game Alex Carey was on 45 and Mitchell Starc was on seven.
