Jets coach had a four-word answer when asked about potentially benching Aaron Rodgers

Jets coach had a four-word answer when asked about potentially benching Aaron Rodgers

Somehow the New York Jets’ season is getting worse.

The Jets lost the eighth of their last nine games with a 26-21 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, marking the franchise’s ninth straight losing season. Aaron Rodgers, who turns 41 tomorrow, received an early birthday present in the form of a sack of coal, throwing for just 185 yards and two touchdowns against one interception (which was a pick-six) in the bitter loss.

New York’s poor time management, brutal penalties late in the game and Rodgers’ mediocre play under center led to the Jets blowing a 14-point lead in another close match that felt very winnable. Rodgers’ future with the Jets has been the subject of much speculation since the firings of Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas, and his era in New York may soon be coming to an end.

Amid rumors about Rodgers’ status as the Jets’ starting quarterback, coach Jeff Ulbrich questioned in a postgame presser whether he would consider benching the veteran this season.

“Not as of today,” said Ulbrich.

So it’s not a clear no.

Even if the Jets were to bench Rodgers for Tyrod Taylor, the team probably doesn’t have much to gain at this point, sitting at an ugly 3-9 record and painfully watching the playoffs slip away week after week -Hopes slip away. It looks like Gang Green is back to the drawing board.
