Jimmy Garoppolo’s brother trolls Kyle Shanahan after TNF loss

Jimmy Garoppolo’s brother trolls Kyle Shanahan after TNF loss

The Garoppolo family apparently still has a beef with Kyle Shanahan.

Nearly two full seasons after Jimmy Garoppolo’s disappointing tenure with the 49ers unceremoniously ended, the quarterback’s brother rejoiced in San Francisco’s weather-related 12-6 loss to the Rams on Thursday night – with Jimmy backing up Los Angeles starter Matthew Stafford .

“Offensive Guru,” Billy Garoppolo wrote over a picture of Shanahan on his Instagram Story, adding several crying, laughing emojis.

In case it wasn’t clear how the younger Garoppolo brother was feeling, he also posted “Let’s go Rams!” earlier in the night.

Jimmy, once the presumptive heir to Tom Brady’s Patriots kingdom, was traded to San Francisco during the 2017 season and began an injury-riddled and at times offensively challenged time with the 49ers.

Garoppolo led the team to a Super Bowl appearance in 2020.

Brock Purdy’s emergence behind Garoppolo and Trey Lance, the No. 3 pick in the 2021 draft, helped end San Francisco’s long quarterback soap opera.

Garoppolo signed a three-year, $67.5 million contract with the Raiders before the 2023 season, but failed spectacularly – making just six starts for the team before a two-game PED suspension and declining performance left him one made it easy to be removed from the squad.

Garoppolo, now 33, was a relative unknown as the Rams’ backup behind Stafford after signing a one-year deal in March.

“We were talking about the reset thing and he said, ‘That’s probably what I needed to take a deep breath, learn a new system, be in a new place, new culture and all that stuff'” Rams assistant Jerry Schuplinski told ESPN in a story published earlier this month. “And he just seems to be fine. He feels comfortable. He enjoys his time and really puts in a lot of work.”

At 8-6 after Thursday’s win, Garoppolo’s Rams are in the hunt for a playoff spot — while the 49ers, at 6-8, will likely miss the playoffs and provide some fodder for players like his younger brother .
