A number of acclaimed, award-winning films headed into the 2025 Golden Globe nominations on Monday morning. They were expected to receive multiple nominations, but compared to expectations, they fell short.

Despite recent accolades from critics groups and wins and nominations just last week at the Gotham Awards and Independent Spirit Awards respectively, the following projects only received one nomination each: Babygirl, another man (which won Best Feature Film at the Gotham Awards less than a week ago), Nickel Boys, The Outrun, The Piano Lesson, Seed of the Sacred Fig And Singing Singing.

Additional acclaimed award contenders (and expected nominees in multiple categories) Blitz, The Room Next Door, September 5th And Saturday evening each received only one nomination.

Even though it won numerous critics’ awards and an award at the British Independent Film Awards just yesterday, Hard truths Star Marianne Jean-Baptiste missed out on a Golden Globe nomination this morning, and the film didn’t receive a nomination either.

Also the big winner of the BIFA, kneecapfailed to receive a nomination in the Best Non-English Language Film category.

Gladiator II also entered Monday’s nominations announcement as a critical and commercial hit on par with its release date partner Evilbut while the latter film received four nominations, Gladiator II (a sequel to the Oscar winner for Best Picture gladiator) only received two awards, for the Globes’ relatively new box office category and for supporting actor Denzel Washington. It missed the best drama film nomination predicted by several experts, and star Paul Mescal and director Ridley Scott, who were also slated to be nominated in the acting and directing categories, did not receive individual nods.

Other notable film snubs do not include a Best Director nomination Evil Helmer Jon M. Chu or Dune: Part Twois Denis Villeneuve and no nominations at all for animated hopefuls piece by piece or This Christmas.

Although Joker: Folie à Deux Although the film was a critical and sales hit, there were still predictions that stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga would receive award nominations for their performances in the Oscar-winning sequel. But Joker 2 was excluded from the Golden Globe nominations this morning.

As far as television goes, perhaps the biggest surprise in Monday morning’s Golden Globe nominations was the nomination of Diego Luna for supporting actor La Máquinaa Spanish-language Hulu limited series that premiered this fall about an aging Mexican boxing legend (played by Gael García Bernal) who is talked into one last fight. Luna plays his manager. Despite the series’ positive reviews (it has a 90 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes), Luna didn’t live up to experts’ predictions for possible Golden Globe nominations, and his performance hasn’t received nearly the attention that some other TV series contenders have received have it, including supporting actor hopefuls who missed out on nods like Abbott Elementary Schoolis Tyler James Williams and Probably innocentThis is Peter Sarsgaard.

Speaking of which Probably innocentThe Golden Globes are one of the first major awards organizations to consider the drama, which debuted in June and became Apple TV+’s most-watched drama series less than a month after its premiere. The show, which was originally intended to be a limited series, landed a second season. But the series missed out on a series nomination in addition to that for Sarsgaard and only received one nomination for star Jake Gyllenhaal.

Likewise, Jason Segel and Harrison Ford received recognition for their roles in “ shrinkagebut the series wasn’t nominated, and House of the Dragon‘s Emma D’arcy was nominated, but the series was not (although the series won the Golden Globe for Best Drama Series in its first season), and man inside Star Ted Danson was nominated, but the series missed out on a nomination.

And on the other hand, some celebrated artists were left out, even though their series received several nominations. Monster Actor Nicholas Alexander Chavez was not nominated, despite agreeing with his co-stars Cooper Koch and Javier Bardem and the show itself. And still Just murders in the buildingMeryl Streep was not nominated for her work this season. And although The diplomat Rufus Sewell received three nominations, including for stars Keri Russell and Allison Janney and the series itself, and was left out of the nominations this morning.

The now acclaimed series that didn’t receive a single nomination this year include: Bad sistersthe Maya Rudolph lead actor prey, Palm Royale (no competing nod for Carol Burnett Award namesake, Burnett), A very royal scandal and the final season of Curb your enthusiasm.

Other TV surprises included a Best Drama Actor award for Billy Bob Thornton for his role in Countrymanespecially without allusions to the announced final season of Yellowstone (a possible sixth season is in talks) despite star Kevin Costner’s Golden Globes win three years ago; and early teases for Jamie Foxx’s upcoming special and Squid game Season two.

Golden Globes producer Dick Clark Productions is owned by Penske Media Eldridge, a joint venture between Penske Media Corporation and Eldridge, which also includes Penske Media Eldridge The Hollywood Reporter.
