José de la Torre, Netflix star, dies aged 37 after mysterious ‘serious illness’

A Netflix star has tragically died after revealing he was suffering from a “serious illness.”

José de la Torre – known for his role as Iván in the Netflix series “Toy Boy” – passed away on Thursday, December 5, just months after revealing his health condition.

The Spanish star was only 37 years old.

Montilla Digital was the first to publish the news, revealing that the funeral took place on Friday, December 6, in his hometown of Montilla, in the Spanish province of Córdoba, in the parish of San Francisco Solano.

The cause of De la Torre’s death is not yet known; However, in June he announced that he had been diagnosed with a “serious illness”. That same month, he began treatment for his undisclosed illness and retreated from the public spotlight to focus on his health battle.

Following news of de la Torre’s death, tributes began to pour in.

“I can’t believe you left so quickly. I am devastated by your departure. I send kisses to all your family and friends,” wrote Spanish singer Pablo Alborán via Instagram.

“We will never forget you, Jose. Wherever you are, I’m sure you’re wearing a Hawaiian shirt, a killer mustache, and those sunglasses like the ones we wore that day.”

De la Torre shared his last Instagram post on June 3rd.

The star looked fit, healthy and happy in photos from his trip to the Canary Islands for a five-day festival called Desalia.

“The happiness of arriving in the Canary Islands, seeing your friends, grabbing a mojito and singing until your voice breaks,” de la Torre captioned the series of party photos. “That was Desalia 2024.”

He added: “And that’s thanks to the team behind @ronbarcelospain who give their best every year.”

De la Torre is survived by his parents Antonio de la Torre Hidalgo and Maria Jose Delgado Espejo and his sister Marina.

The model and actor was best known for her role as Iván in the Netflix series “Toy Boy”. The Spanish thriller about a stripper desperate to prove his innocence for a crime he didn’t commit ran for two seasons from 2019 to 2021.

De la Torre only made his acting debut two years before landing the role.

He made his debut in the police drama Serve and Protect as Goyo. De la Torre also starred in Vis a Vis: El Oasis and Amar es para siempre, both released in 2020.
