Jovani Morán moved to the Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox acquired left-handed pitcher Jovani Morán from the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday in exchange for catcher/infielder Mickey Gasper.

Boston’s 40-man roster now numbers 39.

The 27-year-old Morán has appeared in 79 major league games, all in relief for the Twins (2021-23). The left-hander has recorded a 4.15 ERA (42 ER/91.0 IP), a .208 opponent batting average and a 1.33 WHIP while striking out 112 batters and walking 52, with just three home runs allowed. Morán was selected by Minnesota in the seventh round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft and missed the entire 2024 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. Born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, he attended the Carlos Beltrán Baseball Academy and played for Team Puerto Rico in the 2023 World Baseball Classic. In 2023, he made his first career opening-day roster with the Twins.

Gasper, 29, made his major league debut in 2024 and played 13 games for the Red Sox. The switch-hitter also played in 92 minor league games between Double-A Portland (44 games) and Triple-A Worcester (48 games), batting .328 (102 for 311) with a .970 OPS. Originally selected by the New York Yankees in the 27th yearTh In the 2018 First-Year Player Draft, the New Hampshire native was selected by Boston in the minor league phase of the 2023 Rule 5 Draft.
