KCCI has a new weekend meteorologist. Meet David Koeller

KCCI Storm Team 8 has a new weekend meteorologist: David Koeller, a Kansas City transplant originally from Colorado Springs.

He replaces Trey Fulbright, who took over the weekend shift in 2022 and left the station for Pittsburg this summer.

Here’s what else we know about Des Moines’ new weekend meteorologist.

Where did meteorologist David Koeller come from?

Koeller joined the KCCI team in November and after several other meteorology jobs in the Midwest. From college television to internships at Fox 2 and KMBC 9 in Kansas City to his stint as chief meteorologist at Fox 5 in Springfield, Missouri, he is accustomed to the changing weather of the Midwest.

Western Iowa viewers may recognize Koeller. For the past six years he has been a meteorologist at WOWT in Omaha, Nebraska. He was most recently seen on weekday afternoon and evening newscasts.

David Koeller has been a weather fan since he was five years old

According to his biography, the weather has been Koeller’s passion since he was five years old. When he first witnessed a tornado near Colorado Springs, he became fascinated with understanding weather patterns, forecasts and extreme weather conditions.

However, he didn’t always want to be on TV as his goal in high school was to make it to the National Weather Service. But he realized he was more comfortable talking about the prognosis than he thought.

He ran his college television station at St. Louis University and served as its meteorologist. Koeller has been everywhere since graduating from college in May 2012.

Koeller enjoys the challenging forecast in the Midwest, his bio says. He looks forward to being an accurate forecaster for central Iowa and exploring a new state.

On the weekends you can catch David Koeller this morning on KCCI 8 News. The newscasts air on Saturdays and Sundays at 5 and 8 a.m.
