Gary Neville and Roy Keane have branded Kyle Walker an “embarrassment” over his antics during an altercation with Rasmus Hojlund during Sunday’s Manchester derby.

Hojlund reacted angrily to a shot from Walker just before half-time and stormed into a head-to-head duel with the Man City captain.

What followed, however, will surely be pure humiliation for Walker, who went down despite Hojlund barely making contact with his head.

Both players were shown a yellow card by referee Anthony Taylor for the incident, but former Man Utd captain Keane believes Walker should have received an even harsher punishment.

“I would have given Walker a red card (for the altercation with Hojlund),” a disgusted Keane told Sky Sports (via BBC Sport). “Walker must be ashamed to go down like that – an experienced player. I don’t know the guy and I’m ashamed of him.”

Keane’s former United team-mate Neville commented on the moment live for Sky Sports, effectively firing up a similar tirade at the Irishman.

“It’s bad of Kyle Walker,” Neville said. “He falls to the ground when he realizes there may have been contact. I think he’ll be a little embarrassed if he sees it again.”

Both Keane and Neville are right and Walker will certainly be red-faced when he rewatches the moment tonight.

Meanwhile, Hojlund will likely be at a bit of a disadvantage as he clearly wasn’t trying to hurt Walker, although in the modern game turning your head towards an opponent is always a risk.

Luckily for the managers, this is only Walker’s second yellow card of the Premier League season, while it is the first for Danish striker Hojlund.
