Kicker Cameron Dicker capped the Chargers’ first-half win with a history-making fair-catch field goal

Kicker Cameron Dicker capped the Chargers’ first-half win with a history-making fair-catch field goal

However, according to Harbaugh, the situation wasn’t too far from the Chargers’ mind as Ficken had his team practice them this week.

Still, quarterback Justin Herbert thought he would take the field in Dicker’s place, assuming he would throw a Hail Mary to end the half. However, he was glad he didn’t.

“It was a huge boost for us,” Hebert said.

The field goal cut the Chargers’ halftime deficit to 21-13. After Denver scored a field goal in the second half, Los Angeles countered with 21 straight points.

For the kicker, it was also the continuation of a season at Pro Bowl level. He made both point-after attempts and both field goals, increasing his respective point totals this season to 27 of 30 and 31 of 33.

However, the upcoming highlight will be his free kick, which was worth it. Despite being educated about the possibility, he admitted he didn’t really believe the opportunity would present itself.

That was the case, and now he’s in the history books while the Chargers (9-6) are deep in the playoff race.

“I didn’t really believe it would ever happen, I just kept thinking, ‘That would be cool if it did happen,'” Dicker said. “Because usually it’s longer kicks and long kicks are fun.”
