Klay Thompson makes NBA history on Christmas for the Mavericks-Timberwolves

Klay Thompson has always been touted as one of the greatest shooters in NBA history, and he continues to rack up milestones to prove it. He surpassed the 2,500 three-pointers he made against the Rockets earlier this season, but has now surpassed one of his idols.

In Wednesday’s Christmas game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Klay Thompson passed Reggie Miller and ranked fifth in NBA history for most three-pointers with 2,561. He now trails only his “Splash Brother” Stephen Curry, as well as James Harden and Ray Allen, and Damian Lillard.

When Steph Curry was asked if Thompson had gotten past Reggie Miller, Curry was more surprised that Miller had dropped to fifth. “Wait a moment. You said fifth? … It’s crazy because three years ago I got past Reggie (Miller) and he was second and now he’s fifth.” He’s also hoping Klay Thompson can catch up and finish in the top three, which would be “nice” for him .

When the Dallas Mavericks signed Thompson this offseason, they envisioned him giving Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving room to operate, even going so far as to say they believed they could have won the championship last year , if Klay had been on the team. It took Thompson about 20 games to settle in, but he’s been playing great basketball since returning from a minor foot injury.

For the season, Thompson is averaging 14.4 PPG and 3.1 3PM per game while shooting 39.1% from three-point range.
