Knife attack on Seattle subway bus: $10,000 reward offered

SEATTLE – The transit union is offering a $10,000 reward to help find the person who murdered a Seattle bus driver.

Around 3 a.m. Wednesday, Seattle Police reported that Shawn Yim was murdered while doing his job.

Yim had been a bus driver for King County Metro since 2015.

Investigators said Yim had two passengers on his bus Wednesday morning when one of them stabbed him.

The murderer is still at large.

“What I know is that we are not doing enough. We’re not doing enough,” said Greg Woodfill, president of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 587.

He said the union has been working for months to make buses safer for drivers and passengers, with no changes. He said immediate action was needed after this brutal murder of one of their relatives.

“What we have invested so far in the future will be in vain if our operators do not feel safe driving a vehicle, if passengers do not feel safe driving,” Woodfill said.

Woodfill said there needs to be secured areas for drivers, there needs to be more dedicated traffic police and there needs to be a regional task force to address safety concerns.

Yim’s murder follows King County Metro’s closure of all service to a bus stop in Seattle’s Chinatown district.

The union said it is offering a $10,000 reward to the person who helps find the killer.

There are images of the suspect, but Seattle police have not yet released them.
