Kylian Mbappe misses the penalty in Real Madrid’s loss to Athletic Club

Kylian Mbappe has taken “full responsibility” for his missed penalty in Real Madrid’s 2-1 away defeat at Athletic Club.

With Real Madrid trailing 1-0 in the La Liga game, the French striker had the opportunity to draw Los Blancos level from the penalty spot, but his shot was parried by Julen Agirrezabala.

Real Madrid eventually got the goal back through Jude Bellingham, but a mistake from Federico Valverde late in the game allowed Gorka Guruzeta to break through on goal and win the game for the home team.

After the game, Mbappe posted a message on his Instagram story reflecting on Real Madrid’s loss and his missed penalty.

“Bad result. A big mistake in a game where every detail counts. I take full responsibility for this. A difficult moment, but it is the best time to change this situation and show who I am.”

During his post-match press conference, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said that Mbappe, who also missed a penalty in the UEFA Champions League against Liverpool last week, was “sad” and “disappointed” after his last missed penalty.

Later in the press report, the Italian head coach mentioned that the 25-year-old still needed time to adapt and was doing everything he could to improve.
