Mbappe has not yet won the Champions League, although there is a feeling he could finally do so with record 15-time winners Madrid.

Silver medals aside, the striker’s goal against Atalanta was his 50th in just his 79th appearance in the competition, with Monaco, Paris Saint-Germain and Los Blancos.

Mbappe reached this mark at the age of 25 years and 356 days, making him the second youngest player of all time.

Only Lionel Messi has surpassed him, with the Argentine scoring 50 goals in the Champions League at the age of 24 years and 284 days.

He achieved this in 2012, when the football legend scored a total of 129 goals in 163 games for Barcelona and PSG in the competition.

Unfortunately for Mbappe, his evening was cut short as he appeared to pull out injured.

The 25-year-old was substituted by Carlo Ancelotti and replaced by Rodrygo in the 36th minute as he left the pitch.

To make matters worse for Real, Atalanta equalized just before half-time through a Charles De Ketelaere penalty.

Mbappe’s appearance was his 22nd for Madrid after joining on a free transfer from PSG.

He scored his first Champions League goal for the club in a 3-1 win against Stuttgart in the opening week.

The striker then went four European games without scoring before scoring a fine finish on Tuesday evening.

Reigning champions Madrid have shocked fans with their progress in the Champions League this season despite three defeats.

Lille surprisingly beat them first before suffering two consecutive defeats against AC Milan and Liverpool.

Madrid are currently expected to finish in the play-off places rather than the top eight, which would allow them to reach the round of 16.
